Pre Rup is the next name of this temple means turning the
body, it was represented to the mountain Meru just built 9 year later than
Mebon temple by the King Rajendravarman to dedicated to god Shiva. According to
the inscription was found here had mentioned the temple was dedicated on AD 961
and the name of Shiva-linga (Rajendrabhadhresvara) which kept in the central
tower and other Linga kept in the northeast tower named (Rajendravemesvara),
the other 3 tower formerly they kept the statues (Shiva, Uma, Vishnu).
PRE RUP was the state temple of the king Rajendravarman
after he returning from Koh-ker
in (Preah Vihear Province
today), the temple stood on an artificial mountain: which had a laterite base
with 5 levels and 5 bricks tower on the top, the plan is square and surrounded
by 2 laterite walls, the first wall is 117m wide by 127m long and in the
courtyard of this first wall you could see 6 brick tower divided into 2 groups
(north and south), which stood on a common base and opening to the east side, the
second wall was made of laterite too (77m wide by 87m long) in the courtyard of
this wall there are many rectangles laterite building that used as long halls
for priests meditation these building were formerly covered by timer-roofs.
